Why should I go all electric?

At This is Electric, we are committed to supporting our customers to transition away from fossil fuels and gas, and embrace the all-electric lifestyle.

But you may be wondering why?

It turns out, the best way to run your home - for your wallet and for the planet - is to have all electric appliances and cars powered by clean electricity.

Recent modelling also shows that transition to all electric homes is how we'll have the biggest impact on climate change this decade.

It can also reduce household costs by over a half.

Let’s explore this a bit more.

What is an all electric home?

Australia’s emissions target of net zero by 2050 relies on changes in our homes, including:

  • Strong energy efficiency

  • Adoption of electric vehicles, rooftop solar and home batteries

  • Electrification of gas appliances

An all electric home has all of these things.

Here is a diagram from our friends at Rewiring Australia.

Reduce emissions (and air pollution)

Using gas and fossil fuels in our homes and cars significantly contributes to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

Check out the data that our friends at Rewiring Australia have collected.

By opting for electric vehicles (EVs), energy efficient electric appliances and solar power, we're reducing emissions, improving air quality, and helping to combat climate change.

Cost Savings

While the initial investment in energy efficient electric technology might seem daunting, the long-term savings are substantial.

According to CSIRO modelling, switching to electric vehicles and energy efficient appliances, could save an average household as much as $2250 per year.

The savings increase even more for solar powered households.

Reduced reliance on gas and fossil fuels can shield you from the volatility of oil prices, putting more money back in your pocket month after month.

To address the barrier of the upfront cost, the Tasmanian Government offers interest free loans to install energy efficient appliances, solar panels and electric vehicle charging infrastructure (among other things).

Contact us if you’d like to chat about the loans or want more information. We are an accredited electrical provider for this scheme and can help do a cost comparison and obligation free quote.

Enhanced energy independence

The ability to generate and use your own clean energy means more independence and less vulnerability to market fluctuations.

With solar panels and battery storage systems, you can generate and store your own energy to power your home and vehicle, increasing resilience during energy shortages and reducing reliance on the grid.
